Curious Foodies, if you’re scratching your head and wondering what in the world is “Korean Fried Chicken,” then I’m sorry – I’m genuinely sorry you lived your entire life without feasting on this magical dish. Korean Fried Chicken has, in my heart, stripped Kentucky Fried Chicken‘s right to use the acronym, “KFC.”
If you accept the above and you want to try Korean Fried Chicken then you need to get it at my all-time favorite spot, Mad For Chicken. Mad For Chicken is a medium-sized Korean restaurant located on Northern Blvd that serves the crispiest, tastiest, juiciest Korean Fried Chicken I ever had. Similar to Malay Restaurant and Joah, it’s slightly difficult to find the main entrance because there are 80 doors to this place but when you get it, you’re in for a treat.
Out of all the Korean Fried Chicken joints I’ve been to, Mad For Chicken tops them all. Whenever I come here, I always order Soy Garlic because it’s so cluckin’ delicious. They don’t have many flavors to choose from but don’t worry because they perfected the few they have. Other places typically have tons of sauces/spices/whatevers but they’re all sub-par in both flavor and quality. Mad For Chicken dunks their gloriously seasoned wings/drumsticks TWICE into scorching hot oil until they crisp delightfully golden brown. Then, they passionately rub on their signature Soy Garlic sauce until each and every crevice grips onto a concoction of brown sugar, onion, garlic, and ginger.
I had the Parmesan Fries next and they were only okay. To be fair, the people I were with loved them. I’m just not a fan of fries with fluffy potato-y insides. I like them crunchy from the outer to the inner layer. To give you some perspective, my go-to would be freshly fried McDonald’s fries. They have the perfect amount of potato meat inside – not too fluffy but not too skinny. Mad For Chicken’s fries, on the other hand, has a teeny bit more meat than I like.
If you never had Korean Fried Chicken before then get ready to have your mind blown. Yes, you’ve missed out on this your entire life. Yes, you’ve been lying to yourself every time you thought “American” fried chicken was bomb. Yes, you’ll agree KFC should now be the official acronym for Korean Fried Chicken. Mad For Chicken is my all-time favorite spot for Korean Fried Chicken, It’s a bit of a wait and it’s a tad pricey, but trust me, it’s worth it.
